April 7, SISIFO - seismic safety into education Initiative to foster seismic safety inside and outside the school buildings in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto

SISIFO - seismic safety into education is a project to promote innovation, knowledge and awareness on the risk of earthquakes inside and outside of school buildings, composed by theoretical and practical activities for teachers and students, ending with a workshop at the University of Udine (Aula 3, via Tomadini 30/a) on Monday, April 7, 2014.

Projected and coordinated by CRS - Center section of Seismological Research of OGS - National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics in collaboration with the University of Udine and with  Numeria Consulting, an Engineering firm based in Cremona, and the financing of the MIUR - Ministry of Education, University and Research, SISIFO involved about 40 teachers and more than 200 students of  12 science and technology secondary schools in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto.

The event of April 7 will be a moment for a preliminary assessment of the project; for a live explanation on the seismic response of buildings and on the security monitoring meant to complete the seismic education of teachers and students and for an exchange of ideas and experiences of the students who participated to the initiative. It will also be an opportunity to highlight how the Civil Protection believes in the strategic importance of this type of educative paths, with the intervention of Immacolata Postiglione, member of the Board of the National Civil Protection Department and to listen to the story of a class of ISIS Galilei Mirandola (MO), which in 2012 experienced a strong seismic event.
